It covers combining multiple physical network links into a single logical network link combining the bandwidth of all the physical links, increasing total bandwidth and incorporating a level of redundancy, should a single link go down or require maintenance.

Haha, finally I know the answer to one of your questions :)  I have been playing around with 802.3ad and the Cisco proprietary EtherChannel with my VMware ESXi farm and my OpenFiler SAN.  Great blog Colby, always enjoy reading.</description>
