I got to agree with Colby. The new CCNP seems to be tailored for the new CCIE R&S.

But the subjects covered now are really "little" compared the the current one. Part of the reason why im holding back to take my ONT and ISCW is to try out hows the TSHOOT exam so i can also experience what kind of questions will i be expecting for R&S.

I have to agree with you Colby. My current classes at school are all based on the current CCNP exams and I'm definitely grateful for that.

I believe they will be switching the classes for the next academic year, which will definitely put the new students at a slight disadvantage I think.

I regret that ONT and ISCW were removed too. The QoS, VPN and wireless sections definitely helped prepare me for my current position.

I can't say how difficult attaining the new CCNP will be, but I can't say I'm happy that it's become so narrow.

I will be excited to hear the beta results of this test roll in. I personally enjoyed the ISCW and ONT aspects of the NP though. I feel like they made me much more well-rounded. But at that...everyone has the chance to go out and study this stuff, certs or not. So if you choose not to just because it isnt in your certification path, that is your fault. I do hope that Cisco realizes people already spend quite a bit of their own dime in order to get Cisco certified. And in turn, it is US, who pushes Cisco within our organizations. So really they should give back a bit to their educational community. Stretch's appeal for educational licensing is a great one...I hope more will follow suit and maybe Cisco will hear it.

I'm inclined to agree with Digitowel regarding reactions of some that suggested the new CCNP would be of lesser value and somehow easier. I have a feeling the TSHOOT exam is going to rock a lot of people. With Cisco already having a 2 hour (simulated/emulated/real) troubleshooting section on their CCIE, I don't see why they couldn't take several aspects of this and add them to the CCNP. We'll see.

It is entirely possible that Cisco could make learning very costly. I hope not. But just in case, I would recommend moving forward with CCIE studies to anyone who is prepared to do so.

All guessing aside, we'll have to see what actually happens.

BTW, the cert guide for TSHOOT is already out:

Two thoughts:

They're finally solidifying the CCIP track by scaling the NP back a bit. Of all the reactions I've heard and read in relation to the NP changes are summed up in two sentences: "They made it easier. They should've left ICSW in." Both of which are complete bullshit.

Whether or not YOU want to continue to progress your certification track after successful completions, Cisco does. For years they've been taking criticism for little to no overlap between the popular tracks (mainly R&S). Now they can easily show that from the Vanilla NA straight up to the IE R&S there is a defined building block structure that utilizes the knowledge CISCO wanted you to learn (Cisco Press).

We've all been accustomed to filling the gaps of information with outside 3rd party sources (INE, blogs, etc). With the more streamlined learning system and the inclusion of 360 Learning, you don't NEED to leave Cisco for anything. That's the way they've always wanted it.

Which brings me to my next point. They aren't just bringing the learning closer to their own supervision, but the implementation as well. IOS 15.0 and the G2 ISR's have all but killed any chance of developmental cost-effective self study. It seems this is all apart of a bigger vision that we're not seeing just yet; soon we will. I don't believe this is good for anyone other than Cisco -- it's their shit, they can do what they want with it.

Just as i posted on the OP. I am shocked the BGP section is a single AS. If this is the case then there is going to be very little BGP troubleshooting on this exam. Maybe basic config with a little redistribution but that is about it.

I know the BSCI went into much more detail than this.
