CCNA Scholarship
Sep 16th
Steve is doing another generous offering over at Networking Forum. He’s planning to give away a “scholarship” for the CCNA. He will essentially pay someone’s way through the CCNA if this person agrees to log his or her progress on the forum. We, the staff and member base, are also offering our guidance and support throughout the process. Here’s a snippet from the forum:
What’s going on?
networking-forum.com is offering a scholarship to one person who would like to earn a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification. The scholarship will provide the CCNA Official Exam Certification Library, a separate forum specifically dedicated to the candidate for his or her use during their studies with feedback from the site’s members, and reimbursement of the exam fees after they pass their exam(s).

Topic Ideas…
Jul 25th
As I explained awhile back, I’m working on the ITILv3 cert and haven’t really been digging into any Cisco/CCIE material. I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be at this ITIL stuff, but I really hate not posting. Without studying, I don’t have a ton of ideas for posts. I have one I’m doing later today on Secondary IP Addresses, but it’s short and simple.
Please post some article ideas in the comments section if you have any. Anything you guys would like to see, let me know. I can’t promise that I’ll do all of them immediately, but I will keep them on the backburner and post when I have time to throw something together or learn the topic well enough to get something decent up.

Educational IOS Petition
Jul 7th
Greg at Etherealmind has created a petition for an educational IOS version. Details:
We the undersigned ask you to sign our petition.
We are the people who are learning about Data networking and Cisco IOS software. As students and practitioners, we need to learn theory and knowledge and then to take that knowledge and practice on Cisco IOS software.
We want to be able to practice that knowledge, and demonstrate our competence. We know that you are considering the value. This petition is to show our need for this solution. Wendel Odom discusses the possibility Cisco Considers IOS for Certifcation Self Study and we are calling for Cisco to make an option available.
This experience and knowledge we gain gives us the capability to make the most of Cisco equipment for our employers, your customers. We help drive the best return on investment, and keep the network performing in the way that your customers expect.
New Idea
May 29th
Lately I’ve been doing lab posts with walkthroughs, which don’t seem to get a ton of interest. Obviously I’ll continue doing labs for my CCIE studies and I’ll likely post them, but I don’t think I’m going to do the walkthroughs anymore. They take a lot of time and I haven’t been feeling motivated.
My new plan is to go through the Command Guides for each technology I study (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, STP, etc) and do quick posts summarizing the command’s purpose and working through an example of usage. I’ll probably include more than one command in each post, depending on their depth. I think this will help me (and hopefully others) get a better understanding of everything.
What do you guys think of this approach? Any suggestions?
Site Will Be Down
Feb 26th
The server this site resides on will be moved tomorrow. The entire site will be down for most of the day (Saturday February 27th) starting at around 10am EST. I will get it back online as quickly as possible, sometime around 4pm, hopefully.
